There is a method to my madness. So let me explain myself, in many words.
The four unicorns are the four seasons. The palomino (upper left) is Spring, the buckskin/dun (upper right) is Summer, the chestnut sorrel (bottom left) is Autumn, and the silver dapple (bottom right) is Winter. As for the horns, I just colored them according to what I felt to be the best color. Spring: iridescent (opal), Summer: gold, Autumn: copper, Winter: silver.

On to the stones. First, let me explain myself again. The season of Spring starts on March 22 (the Vernal Equinox). The season of Summer starts on June 22 (the Summer Solstice). Autumn starts on September 22, the Autumnal Equinox, and Winter starts on December 22, the Winter Solstice. So I took the birthstones from those months and put them on their respective unicorns. I know there are a few different birthstones for each month, but this is what I came up with: Spring—March—Aquamarine. Summer—June—Alexandrite. Autumn—September—Sapphire. Winter—December—Blue Quartz. (The alexandrite looks weird because I had accidentally colored it red because I thought summer started in July {July, ruby, you know}, and then realized my mistake and had to erase it, and it still looks weird).

Lastly, the background. Each month has its own flower (s). The flower for Spring (in this picture) is the daffodil. Summer’s is the rose, Autumn’s the aster, and Winter’s the poinsettia. I know, the flowers kind of ruined the unicorns, and I’m prepared to be yelled at by any botanists out there because the flowers don’t look that great. (I was lazy). And if any equine expert out there wants to correct me on my horse head anatomy, feel free to do so, because I really want to get better at drawing horses.

I think my coloring job was pretty decent. I like the little Celtic-ish design in the middle. ^^

Looks great! I dont know anything about flowers, but just my 2 cents on the horses, I'd make their ears alot smaller. they look like vulcan ponies. ;] ahaha. And maybe make the nostrils/muzzles daintier too. (is daintier a word? more dainty.) Love it though! I cant draw horses that well!
